The speaking contest is over it is now May 21 and the speaking contest was May 13 Tuesday night It was my sister birthday. The piece is on page 20 Evening at the Farm 61 lines. It was going to be March 21, but they changed it to May 13, 1913.
I did not get any of the prizes but everybody said I did fine. Emma Martain got the first prize, Gertrude Grab got the second prize and a boy in the seventh grade got the third prize. The prizes are $3.00 first prize, $2.00 second prize and $1.00 third prize. My room gave me the most beautiful bouquet of pink and white carnation that you ever saw. There was also firm leaves with the bouquet. The bouquet was given to me after I spoke. The bouquet was tied with a pink ribbon. The carnations kept a week. Then I took out one carnation and a firm leaf and put it in a large book and pressed it then I took it out done it up in silk paper and tied a ribbon around it and put powder around it and in it. Inside was one of my calling cards and a piece of white paper and is written a poem about the little carnation. I wrote it. I washed the pink ribbon that is around it but could not get some of the stains out of it. The carnation will be done up in silk paper tied with the pink ribbon that was tied around them when I got them. Inside will be the Diploma and Report Card of the fourth grade. The beautiful carnation and the firm leaf. The poem of the little carnation and my calling card. This summer I am saving rose leaves and every rose I get I tare off the leaves and put them in a jar. I am going to keep putting them in there till simmer has gone then I will put them with the little carnation. They smell just beautiful I am going to put any color rose leaves in there as long as there rose leaves.
