Mrs. Topping’s 3rd grade class from Plank Road South School were her students. A writing project with Mrs. Topping and her class at Plank Road South completed the project. Amanda spent time at the Museum with Mrs. Thomas learning about the collections and exhibits and planning her classroom presentation. She hopes to help with student tours and Museum projects this summer.
Playing Soccer and Lacrosse and serving as a counselor at Camp Stella Maris are other interests of this bright and enthusiastic young woman. This fall Amanda will be off to Allegheny College in Pennsylvania majoring in International Business Studies.
Museum Acquires Ownership of Lapham Park Property From Village of Webster.
On Thursday April 24, 2008 the Webster Museum and Historical Society became the owner of the building and property at 18 Lapham Park in the Village of Webster. Although the Museum property is located in Webster Village, the Museum Building is the history resource for both the Town and Village of Webster. The Museum and Historical Society has gathered a significant collection of artifacts relating to Webster’s History. The office of Town and Village Historian Lynn Barton, with many Town and Village historical records and photographs, is located within the Museum .
The Webster Museum, established 32 years ago as part of the Bicentennial Celebration in Webster, was first located in a wing of the Town Hall on Ridge Road. Early in the 1980’s the Museum and the Webster Historical Society combined their organizations and in 1987 The Museum and Historical Society moved to 18 Lapham Park. The Lapham Park building was renovated by Museum members and has been cared for primarily by the Museum and its members since that time.
The path from a wing of the town to property ownership has been long and complex. The Museum acknowledges with thanks the time and work of the members of the Village Boards and the Museum Boards and others who have worked toward this end over many years. The Webster Museum and Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) corporation, is Chartered as a Museum and Certified as a Educational Museum by New York State.
