Webster's Historic Homes

In 2008, the Town of Webster presented approximately 10 bronze, historic markers which have been placed on those homes that are outstanding examples of the architecture before 1902 and truly reflect the historic significance of our town. Working in partnership, the Town of Webster and the Webster Museum and Historical Society have approved a program to recognize historic homes.

The Historic Properties Committee has as its goals:

To present for local recognition, Town of Webster historic property plaques to Webster properties meeting approved criteria for architectural integrity and historic significance.

To inform the community of the historic importance of our town.

To encourage rehabilitation and maintenance of historic structures.

To promote tourism in the town.

To promote community pride.

The 2009 program culminated in the presentation of the Historic Plaques to home owners during Preservation Month activities in May, 2009.

Outhouse

The Historic Properties Committee of the Webster Museum and Historical Society, working with the Town of Webster, has been documenting and photographing significant older houses in the town. Last May during National Preservation Month, brass plaques were awarded to ten homeowners with architecturally or historically important houses in the Town of Webster. The group is now working to locate other outside structures from an earlier era, such as hitching posts, carriage mounting blocks, outhouses, pergolas, wells, ice houses older gazebos, smokehouses and etc. that are visible from the road.

Please call Mary Fran Grenier at 671-8738 if you have a historic structure that the committee could photograph and include in our historic resource file. The file is available at the Museum.
